ARRANGEMENTS are underway to send home six Malaysians who overstayed their tourist visas and were working illegally in Western Australia, immigration minister Brendan O'Connor says.
They were found on yesterday at a house in Australind, 160km south of Perth, following information provided by the community and investigation by local police.
On Wednesday, Mr O'Connor said the Malaysians - five men and one woman - were taken to Perth Immigration Detention Centre, where they would remain while arrangements were finalised to return them home.
``They cooperated fully when our compliance officers moved in,'' Mr O'Connor said.
They had been working illegally in the agriculture industry and investigations into the circumstances of their employment continue, he said.
Under Commonwealth legislation, people convicted of employing illegal workers face fines of up to $20,400 and two years' imprisonment while companies face fines of up to $102,000 per illegal worker.
